On 13 May 2026, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with proposals to improve service quality, safety and the efficiency of using the infrastructure of the Tashkent Metro. By 2030, it is planned to increase daily passenger traffic to 1.8 million people, bring the number of stations to 79, the total line length to 103 km, and gradually reduce train headways to 1.5–3 minutes.

To improve safety, it is proposed, as a pilot project, to install glass protective barriers on the platforms at the “Shahristan” station. According to international experience, such barriers can reduce the number of accidents by 80–90%, and also provide additional income through advertising placement.

The construction of new lines is being discussed separately. It is planned to prepare documentation for the “Mingurik — Chilanzar clothing market” line, as well as to study an option for phased implementation of the “Mingurik — Southern Railway Station” route with subsequent extension “Southern Railway Station — Chilanzar clothing market”.

Other measures include modernizing infrastructure and the technical base, financial recovery, and expanding off-budget revenues. Considered sources include digital advertising in train cars and on platforms, vending machines and retail outlets at stations, parking near metro stations, as well as leasing unused premises for coworking spaces and offices.

To encourage switching from private transport to the metro, it is proposed to introduce a Park&Ride system. For 2027–2030, preparations are planned for proposals to purchase new rolling stock and for allocating a site for an electric depot.

It is also planned to develop a metro development strategy for 2027–2035. Its goal is to double the network, increase the volume of перевозок by 2.5 times, and improve energy efficiency and safety levels. A separate section will work through fare payment options: distance-based fares, concessions and the introduction of daily, weekly and monthly passes.
