Not a single case of hantavirus infection has been registered in Uzbekistan, reported Nurmat Atabekov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Well-Being and Public Health. According to him, the epidemiological situation in the country remains stable, and regular virological monitoring continues.

The SES recalled that, according to WHO assessments, hantavirus does not spread as quickly as коронавирус and is not regarded as a threat of a global pandemic. More than 20 types of hantaviruses are known worldwide, but only some are dangerous to humans; in Asia and Europe cases are recorded rarely, while certain varieties are more often noted in Latin America. The explanations were published in a statement by the Ministry of Health.

Rodents are most often the source of infection, and human infection occurs rarely — through dust, objects, or products contaminated with animal excretions, as well as during prolonged пребывание in a contaminated environment. Symptoms include fever, headache, weakness, nausea, vomiting, muscle and abdominal pain; in severe cases, kidney failure and complications affecting the respiratory and cardiovascular systems are possible.

There is no specific vaccine; treatment is symptomatic. The agency recommends соблюдение hygiene, maintaining cleanliness, safe food storage, washing fruits and vegetables, wet cleaning, and ventilating enclosed spaces. It is noted that continuous sanitary control at 53 border checkpoints is in place to prevent the importation of infections.

WHO previously reported an outbreak on a cruise ship: out of 147 people, as of May 11, 9 possible cases and 3 deaths had been recorded.
