In Uzbekistan, the first case has been identified in which a driver, under the new penalty-points system, accumulated more than 12 points in a year. The man was summoned to the Road Traffic Safety Department (UBDD), where the accrued points were confirmed. The case materials will now be sent to court to consider revoking his driver’s license.
According to the driver, he did not believe in the effectiveness of the new system until he received a summons to the UBDD and was informed about the accumulated points. This case became the first known instance of a driver exceeding the permitted threshold of 12 points, indicating the start of active enforcement of the new punishment system for traffic violations.
The penalty-points system was introduced in the country on June 1, 2025. Under this system, drivers receive penalty points for various traffic-rule violations. If the total points for the year exceed 12, the driver is banned from driving a vehicle for at least six months. On April 1, 2026, the system was expanded: penalty points are now assigned not only based on reports drawn up by officers of the State Road Traffic Safety Service, but also for violations recorded by cameras and radars.
The introduction of the penalty-points system is aimed at improving driver discipline and reducing the number of violations on the country’s roads. Drivers are advised to carefully follow traffic rules to avoid accumulating penalty points and the possible loss of their driving privileges.
