The Tashkent city administration published an explanation regarding the flooding near the Chorsu metro station, which occurred after heavy rain on May 3. The administration stressed that the cause was not only the rainfall: the key factor was cited as the unauthorized blocking of irrigation (drainage) networks, which prevented water from draining through the designated channels.

As the specialist уточнил, in places where drainage lines previously ran, over time parking lots, roads, and development appeared, disrupting the system’s operation. At the same time, the city drainage network is designed for about 20 mm of precipitation per day; however, about 12 mm fell in 2 hours of rain—and that turned out to be enough to cause flooding.

The administration reported that it is planned to open all blocked irrigation networks, build new lines, and implement a master plan рассчитом up to 36 mm of precipitation; work has already begun, and special equipment has been deployed. It is also noted that the city mayor personally went to the site and issued relevant instructions.
