State Security Service officers detained a senior assistant to a judge of the Surkhandarya Regional Court while he was receiving $53,000. According to the investigation, the money was handed over in exchange for a promise to help two defendants in a criminal case that was being heard by the Angor District Criminal Court.

It is reported that the suspect, using his official position, intended to obtain a reassessment of damages of 6.3 billion soums and their subsequent reduction through the issuance of a court ruling. He also promised to facilitate the imposition of a punishment not involving imprisonment and the отмене of the preventive measure of detention in custody applied at the preliminary investigation stage.

A criminal case has been opened against the detainee under пункт «a» of Part 4 of Article 168 (fraud) and Part 1 of Article 211 (bribery) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. Investigative actions are underway.
